Boys Volleyball finished regular season strong, begins state playoffs Friday

Continuing their region play, the Trojans faced off against the Gilbert Classical Spartans on the 24th of April. The Trojans took home an impressive victory in a 3-set sweep winning each set 25-23, 26-24, and 25-14.  Senior Jose Amancio-Ramos and junior Micah Morton both put up impressive performances with 10 kills apiece. Other notable contributions that helped push the Trojans to victory were junior Austin Moskop with 4 blocks, and Senior Will Groen with 13 digs. On the following day the Trojans competed against the Northwest Christian Crusaders who are #2 in the 3A Division. The Trojans struggled in the first set, losing 15-25, but gained momentum in the following two sets and narrowly lost 25-27 and 23-25 to the Crusaders. Despite their loss, Groen put up an impressive 14 kills and senior Kaden Haase had 32 assists, averaging 10.7 assists per set.

In their final week of the regular season, the Trojans started the week at home vs the San Tan Charter Roadrunners where they celebrated their senior night. The Trojans honored the 8 senior players as well as seniors Madi Brown-McAlpine and Ellie Stuber who serve as student assistant coaches on the team. The Trojans overtook the Roadrunners in a dominating 3-set sweep thanks to standout performances from senior Zeek Coyle with 8 kills, Amancio-Ramos with 7 aces, and Groen with 15 kills. During this game, senior Kaden Haase also hit his milestone 1000 career assists and celebrated it with his team, commenting, "It was amazing to hit that career milestone and to be able to do it with such an amazing team and coaching staff there to support me."

Later that week, the Trojans played against Odyssey Institute, who they lost to in the previous year during the state tournament.  However, this year the Trojans managed to overtake the Minotaurs in a 3-set victory, winning 25-13, 25-16, and 25-23. Groen landed a staggering 15 kills and hit .520 for the match. Other standouts include senior Travis Christy with 4 aces and sophomore Brandon Madison who tallied 6 kills hitting .625 on the night. The Trojans continued their winning streak in a 3-set sweep over the Leading-Edge Academy Spartans in their last regular season game of the year.

Heading into playoffs, the Trojans are ranked #2 in the 3A East region and #5 in the 3A conference, earning them the #5 seed in the state tournament. Make sure to keep up with the Trojans as they play the #12 Horizon Honors Eagles at home this Friday, May 9th! Come out and support the team as they make their run in their tournament and make sure to follow along for the individual players' journeys as well as the Trojans have multiple players who currently rank in the top three for assists, kills, and kills per set in the entire 3A division! Help fill up the stands and show your support for the Trojans in their final games of the season!
