The Valley Christian boys baseball team remains the number 1 team in 3A as they enter the final stretch of the season. The team is playing some of their best ball as they haven't lost since March 27
th. They had some big games during the week in late April as they faced two region opponents as well as the 2
nd best team in 3A, Yuma Catholic.
Valley Christian hosted Seton Catholic for their second meeting of the year on April 15
th.
Jaxen Maxey ('26) started on the mound for the Trojans looking to shut down Seton's bats. Seton Catholic jumped out front early taking a 1-0 lead into the bottom of the 3
rd. The Trojans then exploded for 5 runs in the bottom half of the 3
rd, topped by a 2-run homer by senior
Caleb Danzeisen. The Trojans never looked back, adding 5 more runs before the end of the game, winning by a score of 10-1. Junior
Brayden Waggoner hit a home run to make it his 3
rd this season.
Kyle Grier ('25) added 3 hits in his 4 at bats and
Jaxen Maxey ('26) and
Carson Grier ('25) struck out 6 batters each.
Next, the Trojans traveled to Coolidge on April 17
th for the second meeting of the season as well. This game wasn't close from the start as the Trojans scored 10 runs through the first 2 innings behind the pitching of Junior Cam Bergloff.
Kyle Grier got his first action on the mound this season coming back from injury. Juniors
Jaxen Maxey and
Brayden Waggoner both added homers to the Trojans' total. The game ended with a final score of 29-2.
Valley Christian then headed to Yuma Catholic for the highly anticipated 1 vs 2 matchup. The two teams met earlier in the season when the Trojans won by a score of 2-1. Cam Bergloff ('26) was pitching for the Trojans and was looking to continue his dominant season. It was a 0-0 game until the top of the 3
rd when the Trojans jumped on the pitcher and scored 6 runs.
Brock Jackson ('26) added another run in the 4
th with a solo home run. The Trojans won this game by a score of 7-1, sending a statement. Cam Bergloff pitched 5 strong innings, striking out 10 batters and only letting up 1 run.
When
Caleb Danzeisen was asked about how he felt about this past week he said, "We knew had good games coming up that were going to test us before the playoffs. We have prepared well in practice and were ready to show it on the field. I'm excited for the final stretch of the season."
