As the cheer season comes to an end, it is important to recognize its cheer squad and the impact they have had on the environment during games and events.
Cheer helps maintain the energy, creating a supportive atmosphere for the Trojans and electric environment for any team taking on the Trojans. This fall the varsity spiritline was led by captains
Reese Robinson ('25),
Libby Juist ('25),
Peyton Shoffner ('25) and
Brielle Hunsaker ('26). During basketball season
Addi Ballantyne ('25) and
Eva Turner ('25) took over for Libby and Brielle since they were playing soccer. This year team has cheered at all home football and basketball games as well as many other events, bringing energy and interactive cheers for the Valley student section to take part in.
Cheer has worked tirelessly to create a supportive environment for football and basketball. Although the football season is over, the basketball team would not be where it is without our energetic cheerleaders at every game. Senior captain,
Peyton Shoffner, shared, "basketball is definitely a change from football because of the smaller space to cheer in, although both sports and venues are very different, they are both super fun." The boys basketball team is 7-1 at home and gives a lot of credit to the amazing cheerleaders.
Spiritline's collective energy can change the whole trajectory of the game, giving the Trojans a huge advantage. Senior captain of the basketball team, Carson Grier, said that "the energy that the cheer team brings can elevate the atmosphere and get the crowd more into it." While the cheer squad pours their hearts out, the basketball team dominates, creating the perfect mix.
Leadership is a huge part of Spiritline, and they take pride in every opportunity given to them. Senior captain
Reese Robinson said, "I love being a captain because it's so cool to step into a leadership position not only just for cheer, but to be an 'older sister' for the rest of the cheer team. I love not only leading our team to success but always bringing glory to God through how we cheer. It's been amazing watching the girls grow in their faith, skills, and maturity. I'm so grateful for the opportunity to be a captain and I wouldn't trade it for the world." The Trojan cheer team has an unbreakable bond and takes pride in getting to come out and cheer with their fellow sisters in Christ.
Make sure to come out on Saturday, March 1 at 8:15 PM at Arizona Veteran's Memorial Coliseum to help the Valley Christian spiritline cheer on the boys basketball team as they play in the inaugural Copper Division Championship game against the Gilbert Christian Knights.
