The boys volleyball team has had some intense games over these past few days. On March 26th the Trojans faced off against the St. Mary's Knights on their home court. St. Mary's was not much different than their last game against the Gilbert Christian Knights. The end scores for both games were the same at 3 –1. The Trojans were led by senior Jacob Leppert with 14 kills on 29 attempts, hitting .379. Junior Travis Christy led the team with 4 aces, with Will Groen closely following with 3. Senior Mason Henkel led the Trojans through the game at the net with 3 blocks and on defense freshman standout Lincoln Powell led with 15 digs and 34 receptions.
On March 28th the Trojans faced off against ALA Queen Creek. This was one of their harder teams that had faced so far in the season. The score for the first set was 25-14 in the Patriot's favor. The second and final third set was nearly the same outcome as the first with the final score ending at 3-0 for ALA Queen Creek. Unfortunately the Trojans just couldn't convert on offense, but standouts in this game were freshman Lincoln Powell with 22 receptions and Jacob Leppert (12) with 18.
On April 2nd the Trojans went up against Madison Highland Heat hoping for a better outcome than their last game. The first set was a close game, ending at 25-20 for the Trojans. The second and third set was a different game for the Trojans as the team took the lead and controlled the game, ending with a solid 3-0 win. Freshman Brandon Madison led the team with 7 kills on 9 attempts, hitting an impressive .667 hitting percentage. Freshman Lincoln Powell had 4 aces and junior Ezekiel Coyle added 3. The Trojans were led by junior captain Kaden Haase, who had 11 assists in the match.
Their team's next game was against Horizon Honors on April 8th on the Trojans' home court. This was a close game. The first set was not ideal for the Trojans with the score ending at 8-25. The second set was much better with the Trojans taking the lead and winning it in a nailbiter, 28-26. The third and fourth set were neck and neck with the third set at 25-23 for the Trojans and the fourth set ending at 25-23 for the Eagles. The final set was intense for both teams. The score was close the entire game until the Trojans took a little lead and held it all the way to the end and secured a hard-fought win, 16-14. This was a great match for the Trojans and showed their grit and determination! Stat leaders were Mason Henkel with 14 kills, Zeke Coyle and Jacob Leppert each with 9, Lincoln Powell with 5 aces, and Sophomore Austin Moskop with 3 blocks. Junior Will Groen led the way with 17 digs and also chipped in 16 assists on offense! Freshman Lincoln Powell had a whopping 48 receptions in this 5-set match!
