10/18/2024 9:07:00 AM

Valley Christian's newest program, flag football, had a tough challenge in their recent matchup, falling short against River Valley, 0-14. The Trojans put up a hard fight, but did not capitalize on the other team's weaknesses. Despite a valiant effort, Valley struggled to take the lead.

The Trojans came out strong on defense in the first quarter, leaving the field with a score of 0-0. On defense, Valley had a total of four interceptions throughout the game, Kahiwa Kaahanui (11) had two interceptions, while Kenzie Hackett (9) and Rylee Randleman (10) each had one of their own. With these four key defensive plays, the Valley Christian flag football team returned the ball a total of 28 combined yards, setting up the next possessions for the Valley's offense.

While the Trojans put up a valiant effort, the team could not efficiently execute the offensive plays once they got the ball. At the beginning of the second quarter, the Trojans almost put themselves on the board. With just ten yards away from a touchdown, Valley could not carry out the play, continuing to come just short of scoring. Offensively, senior Morgen Hackett led the team in receiving, with a total of 39 yards, and junior Rylee Randleman was second in receptions with 33 receiving yards of her own.

Though the entire team could not make the trip, as this was a game played four hours away, the players continued to support and cheer on their teammates through the game's livestream. Sophomore Amelia Bowman shared, "even though I couldn't be there in person at the game, I still watched and supported my team throughout the game."

While the Trojans did not bring home a victory, the team will continue to grow and hope to learn from this game and use what they learned to the team's advantage in the next games. Overall, the Valley Christian flag football team looks to bounce back and bring home a few more wins over the course of this season.
