Valley Christian Baseball Continues to Dominate

4/18/2023 9:15:00 AM

The Valley Christian Baseball team continues to beat their opponents as then head into the last third of the season. Last week they played Benjamin Franklin and this week they played against Sabino, Scottsdale Christian, and Globe.

The first game was an away game against Benjamin Franklin. Junior Dylan Suzuki was the starting pitcher and pitched a great game through the first four innings, then freshman Cameron Bergloff came in to pitch for an inning, and Caleb Sweeney closed the game out. All pitchers were phenomenal, and we held Benjamin Franklin to only 1 run. Sophomore Caleb Danzeisen hit a three-run homerun that helped get the Trojans' energy up and begin their rally. The final score was 15-1, an easy Trojan victory.

The next week, on Tuesday, the Trojans played against a pretty good Sabino team, currently ranked #11. There was a lot of energy in the dugout during this game as Sabino is one of our baseball rivals.  Kyle Grier pitched the first 5 innings and then Caleb Sweeney came in and finished the game. The Trojans had a big second inning, racking up hits and scoring 5 runs. Sabino didn't go down easy though, and in the 5th inning the Sabercats scored 3 runs. Juniors Will Bastian and Gavin Smith had good days batting, and both hit triples. Ryan Kao also had a good day at the plate and went 3/3 and had 3 RBI's. The Trojans came out with the dub, winning 10-4.

Later that week, on Thursday, the boys played at home against Scottsdale Christian at 6:00 pm. This is the first home game in school history that was played under the lights. There was a lot of energy within the dugout for this game. Dylan Suzuki pitched the entire game and the Trojans had a ton of two out rallies. The VC boys ended up winning this game successfully, 14-3.

The very next day, the Trojans faced Globe, which was the second game under the lights. Cameron Bergloff started the game pitching and then Devin Morganfield ended the game pitching, both of which are freshmen. A third freshman standout, Brock Jackson, was the first player for the Trojans to hit a homerun under the lights. The final score for this game was 14-2.

The Trojan baseball team maintainted their spot at #1 in the 3A South Central Region and #1 in the state and continue their undefeated regular season record.

Their next game is on Monday April 17 at SanTan Foothills at 6:00 PM.
