The Trojan Boys Volleyball team played their first ever game on Tuesday, February 28th at Poston Butte. The starting players for the Trojans were Lincoln Womack, Isaac Liimatta, Kaden Haase, Jose Amancio-Ramos, Jacob Leppert, and Dustin Henry. The game took off and it was back in forth for the first set until the very end. The Trojans were able to take the first set 25-22. The 2nd set was very similar with the teams battling it out back and forth. The coaches subbed in Senior Luke Wegenke which helped turn the tide, the Trojans then took the 2nd set 25-22.
In the 3rd set, the Trojans fell behind and struggled to catch up. The boys ended up losing the 3rd set 17-25, bringing the game to a 4th. Unfortunately, the 4th set started off the same. The Trojans fell behind early, but they weren't out yet. The team ended up losing the 4th set 17-22, sending the teams into a deciding 5th set. Senior Lincoln Womack, a captain on the team, gave the Trojans a motivational pep talk before the 5th set. The Trojans started the 5th set off strong, battling hard for every point. They didn't give up, going after every ball and they took the 5th set, 15-10, winning the first ever boys volleyball match in school history! Due to his impressive gameplay and leadership, Senior Lincoln Womack earned Max Preps Player of the Match honors for their first game.
Nearly a month later, on March 21st, the Trojans faced off against San Tan Charter. The Trojans started the same players as the last game, but added Senior Luke Wegenke as middle blocker. The team dominated the first set, winning 25-10. The 2nd set began and the Trojans quickly earned a comfortable lead. They kept up their scoring and the 2nd set ended in a win for the Trojans, 25-12.
In the 3rd set the Trojans were able to play some of their other players like sophomore Zeek Coyle, freshman Micah Morton, sophomore Will Groen, and freshman Myles Liimatta. The 3rd set started off strong with Lincoln Womack leading the charge once again. The score went back and forth until the end, when the Trojans took the victory 25-23. Senior Lincoln Womack averaged an impressive 9 kills per set. Throughout the match, Sophomore Kaden Haase and Senior Lincoln Womack kept the Roadrunners on the ropes with a combined 10 aces overall. In the end Sophomore Kaden Haase earned Max Preps Player of the Match against San Tan Charter.
This game brings the team's record to 2-0 and they eagerly await their upcoming matches, starting tonight at home against Eastmark at 5:30 PM.
