The Trojan Track and Field team hosted the Al Nelson Invitational from Friday, April 11
th to Saturday, April 12
th. On the 11
th, the javelin team competed, and the boys performed exceptionally well. On the 12
th, the team as a whole came out fired up and ready to showcase the work they've been putting in all season at the biggest home meet of the season.
At this meet, there were a few athletes with excellent performances and personal records that are worthy of recognition:
Girls:
Just like last year, the girls have a high chance of winning the state title. Although they finished 3
rd at state last year, based on these performances from the Al Nelson Invitational, state is looking bright for the Lady Trojans.
Teagan White ('27) shared, "The meet was a lot of fun to compete in. Even though it was really hot outside, everyone did really well and I'm so excited to see how we do at state this year!"
Boys:
- Llewellyn Payne ('25) – 400 Meters: Ran a 50.77
- Micah Newkirk ('26) – 800 Meters: Ran a 1:59.28
- Caleb Goldman ('26) – 300 Meter Hurdles: Ran a 39.84
- Ethan Gomez ('25) – Javelin: Threw 204-05 feet (62.31 meters)
The boys came out strong once again at this meet. Senior
Ethan Gomez broke yet another Valley record after throwing the javelin at this meet, and he is currently #2 in the nation for javelin. Junior
Micah Newkirk says, "Despite it being really hot that day, it was a good meet and everybody got some really nice times."
The boys are hoping to do just as well at state as they did at the Al Nelson Invitational.
Make sure to continue supporting the Trojan Track & Field team as they finish out the season.
