On Friday April 25
th the Trojan Track and Field team competed in their second to last meet before state, the Shaun Hardt True Grit Invite at Queen Creek High School. The meet consisted of 35+ schools from all around Arizona. There were overall some great performances individually, and as a team they continue to train hard for state.
Boys Team:
- Ethan Gomez ('25) won the javelin throw, throwing 189-11' and setting a meet record
- Caleb Goldman ('26) placed 4th in the 300 meter hurdles, running 39.46 and breaking the previous meet record
- Ethan Hodgson ('26) took home gold for the 110 meter hurdles, running 15.06 seconds
- Finnley Roth ('26) placed 5th in the pole vault, reaching 15 feet.
Girls Team:
This meet has a unique event, which is a 4x100 meter relay where only throwers can enter it. However, instead of using a baton they use a watermelon! It is also a mixed relay, meaning that there are two girls and two guys in the relay. Valley Christian competed in this event with
Brayden Voss ('28),
Ryland Ross ('27),
Taylor Miser ('25), and
Catherine Slyter ('25). They were able to take home third place in this fun event, running a time of 59.11 seconds. Although this does not count as an actual event, it was still an entertaining event to compete in for the Trojans.
Overall the Trojans had a great meet and are looking forward to state on May 9
th and 10
th. Make sure to show out and support the Trojans for the remainder of their season!
