The Trojans' Track and Field season is coming to wraps and with that comes this year's state final meet. Several of our very own athletes have competed and are amongst the best in Division IV. This Friday and Saturday they are headed to take on Snowflake, last year's state champion, and hopefully come out on top. Amongst the best of the Trojan athletes are:
- Micah Newkirk ('26) – He will be running the 800-meter, 1600 meters, and 3200 meters. He currently holds the school record for the 1600 meters and 3200 meters and has a good shot to break the 800 as well. He shared, "I'm looking forward to competing and giving it my all. Last year we were runner ups to Snowflake, but this year were looking to come out on top."
- Ethan Gomez ('25) – Ethan is throwing Javelin in state this year and he is currently ranked 1st in Division IV, 1st in all of Arizona, and is ranked 7th in the nation. He's dominated the field this year and has broken his own school record multiple times, throwing an incredible 204"5. This year at state he will be a key player and a dominant athlete as he attempts to throw even further.
- Averi White ('27) – Averi, ranked second in Division IV, jumps an astounding 10"6 in the pole vault. She's one of our best jumpers and is going to make a big impact in state this year. She trails 1st by only one inch and has a real shot to be first this year.
- Lauren Payne ('27) – Lauren is ranked second in Division IV for the 800m and is in good shape to score points at state this year. She had an incredible performance at state last year and is coming back to top it off again.
There are so many more athletes competing this weekend, but these are just a few amongst the best.
State this year is held at Deer Valley High School, come out and support the Trojans.
Have a blessed day!
