Valley Christian Girls Basketball had an action-packed week with four games! The girls displayed their teamwork and dedication throughout all of them. The team delivered standout performances, earning three victories and one loss.
On Tuesday, January 14th, the basketball team took an hour-long road trip to Coolidge High School. This game was full of excitement and physicality. The girls fought long and hard throughout the entire game. The game was nearing the end, and the score was awfully close. There were 8 seconds left of the game, and the score was tied. The Trojans inbounded the ball. The clock was ticking, and Junior
Ellie Phillips threw up the last shot with 1 second left. She made it! The Trojans won the game on a buzzer beater, beating Coolidge 38-35.
On Friday, January 17th, the girls put up another great fight against the Thatcher Eagles. They absolutely dominated this game, finishing with a score of 65-7.
Ellie Phillips ('26) was the leading scorer with 27 points, while
Abby Grier ('27) finished the game with 10 points, 5 assists, and 7 steals. This game was a great opportunity to practice their different plays and get more comfortable with them. Everybody was able to get playing time, and overall, this game was just a great opportunity to get better!
On Saturday, January 18th, the Lady Trojans took a trip up to Snowflake. This game was the most challenging game of the week. Snowflake was ranked #2 in the 3A, and Valley was ranked #3. Despite their best efforts, Valley Christian struggled to contain Snowflake's offense and fell short, 28-39, resulting in their first loss of the season.
Lastly, on Monday, January 20th, the Trojans wrapped up the week with a dominant win against the Rancho Solano Mustangs. There were seven players with six or more points. Phillips finished with 20 points, Grier had 9 points, and
Addison Krupnik ('29) had 8 points of her own. Lastly,
Bella Ferrara ('25) and
Charis Sellars ('27) both added 6 points om the victory. This game was a great game that brought confidence back for the Trojans, especially after their loss a couple of days prior. This game was full of energy and teamwork. The Trojans ended up winning 66-21.
The Trojans are looking forward to finishing out their regular season with some tough games ahead. Make sure to come out and cheer on your Trojans!
