The Valley Christian Girls Basketball team has dominated this season and played many great games. The Trojans finished with an awesome overall record of 15-3. They won their region with their region record 9-1; giving them the title of Central Region Champs.
Valley Christian Girls Basketball has a stacked team this year.
Ellie Phillips ('26) and
Abby Grier ('27) are leading the team in points.
Kendall Goncharoff ('27),
Kendall Rice ('27) and
Ellie Phillips are leading the team in steals. Ari Maurer ('25) and
Bella Ferrara ('25) are currently leading the team in rebounds, heading into playoffs.
To kickoff the playoffs, the Trojans got to compete in the first ever Copper Division state tournament; which is an open bracket for the best teams from 1A, 2A, and 3A. The girls basketball team competed in the Copper bracket at the 13
th seed, but unfortunately lost the game to Miami High School. The Trojans had to compete without three of their main players due to injuries, but stuck in the game and finished with a final score of 40-72. The Blue Crew did a great job of packing the stands and cheering on the Trojans.
The team will get an amazing chance to bounce back after their last game vs Miami by now dropping down and continuing the playoffs by playing in the 3A bracket. The Trojans are currently ranked #6 overall and will be playing the rival school, Gilbert Christian, in the 1st round. This game took place in front of a packed gym on Monday, February 17
th at 7PM resulting in a Trojan win and a final score of 68-56.
The team is preparing to take on Ganado High School, who is seeded #3, on Friday February 21
st at 7PM on the road. Sophomore
Abby Grier shared her thoughts on this upcoming game, "I am feeling very confident that our team can pull through with this win. We just have to have the right mindset and play with 100% effort."
