Trojans go on Big Win Streak

4/26/2024 10:48:00 AM

After starting the season of strong, the Trojans came out and continued their big win streak in beach volleyball. On February 29th, The Trojans faced the Mohave Thunderbirds on the road. The Thunderbirds brought some competition to the sand, but the Trojans held strong. Due to Valley only taking 4 pairs on the road, Mohave took the first game by forfeit. The Trojans then responded by winning at the 4, 3, and 2 games, deciding the match before the 1's team started. A highlight came from Kaylee Dancer and Morgen Hackett, who dominated in their game at the 3's. They came out on top in the first two sets, not letting their opponent score double digits in either. Kaiya Haase was not available to play at the 1's since she was on her way to Kenya for her Engage trip, so sophomore Emma Smith stepped in. Claire Gilbert and Emma Smith fought hard at the 1's but weren't able to take the last game, losing in two. Valley ended up on top, beating the Thunderbirds three games to two.

Mohave Results

After an extended break, the Trojans were back to take on the Horizon Honors Eagles at home for the first time this season. The #5 pair of Ellie Stuber and Jasmine Garcia, as well as the #4 pair, Aubrey Miller and Avery Schmidt, kicked it off by winning both of their games in two sets. The next three games held the similar result, all pairs winning in two sets. This was the first time this season that every Trojan pair had won their games in two sets. The 2's and 5's each held their opponents to under 5 points in one of their sets. The Trojans were now 5-0 on the season.

Horizon Honors Results

On March 25th, the Trojans faced off against the Arizona College Prep Knights at home. The Knights showed up hoping to be competitive, and with something to prove, after falling to the Trojans 4-1 in their previous matchup last season. In the four and five games, senior and sunior pairs of Ellie Stuber and Morgan Bradford, as well as Jasmine Garcia and Avery Schmidt, fought hard and took down the Knights, winning both sets by less than three. Game three was a nail-biter, the Trojans lost the first set by a deficit of two, but responded well and won the next two to take the game. Game two was very one-sided, sophomore duo Emma Smith and Eliana Gregg won both sets by double digits. In the 1's game, the captains, senior Kaiya Haase and sophomore Claire Gilbert fended off the Knights, taking the game and completing the sweep.

ACP Results

The Trojans were 6-0 in the regular season at this point. The team hopes to continue their dominance in the remaining regular season games.
