The Valley Christian baseball team has played against some good competition within the past few days. They first played Sabino and then Scottsdale Christian. They were both great games, and the Trojans won both.
Valley started the week by beatting Sabino 7-1 on Tuesday, April 9th. Senior Dylan Suzuki started off the game pitching and had an excellent game. He went five innings with no earned runs and five strikeouts. There were some great at bats to back him up. Senior Jake Harrison and junior Carson Grier both went 3-3. Jake had a double and two singles and Carson had a triple and two doubles. Overall, it was a great day for defense and offense. This game was also sophomore Jaxon Maxey's first appearance for the Trojans since he was unable to play for the first half of the season. Junior Caleb Danzeisen inputted, "Our team is very talented and battled through trouble with the lineup but will continue to work hard and do the best we can this season."
Valley then beat Scottsdale Christian 10-5 on Thursday, April 11th. The Trojans were not at the best of their ability since they were tired from their previous games; however, this did not stop them from pushing through and pulling out a win. Valley started out great, scoring four runs in the first inning, then in the last inning scored six more. There were a variety of pitchers that were used: juniors Caleb Sweeney and Kyle Grier, freshman Ryan Sanchez, and sophomore Devin Morganfield. The defense was not the best this game, but they will learn from their mistakes and improve in the next game. Senior Dylan Suzuki added, "We did not play to the best of our abilities, but we came back and persevered and will continue to do better." They plan to continue to finish their season strong and play to the glory of God. Senior Abner Ingegneri added, "Our intent was great, and we will continue to work off that for our upcoming games."
Baseball will continue their season by playing an away game on April 12th at American Leadership Academy Ironwood at 4:00 PM. Then on Monday April 15, they will be going to Yuma to play against Yuma Catholic at 4:00 PM. Make sure to go out and support your Trojans!
