Valley Wrestling Program Boasts First State Champion in School History, Senior Andie Donahue!

3/17/2024 10:26:00 AM

The Valley Christian wrestling team had their final meet of the 2023-2024 season, the State Championship meet. There were four Trojan wrestlers that earned the opportunity to represent Valley at State: Enrique Rannow (12), Carson Groff (11), Andie Donahue (12) and Hannah Goldman (10).

On the girls side, we are excited to share that senior Andie Donahue became the first Trojan in school history to win an individual wrestling state title for Valley Christian, an incredible achievement. She has been working very hard this season and all her efforts have paid off. She felt very relieved and excited and shared that it was a breathtaking experience that continues to replay in her head every day. Her coach, Coach Jay Olinger, could not have been more excited as has been coaching at Valley Christian for 24 years and this is his first athlete to bring home a state title! Since Andie is a senior, this was her last match as a high school student, and she left on a high note. Shared some advice for the upcoming teams, "have patience and do not give up, and prove people wrong if they doubt you." She has been a leader on this team all throughout high school and is excited that the team will continue to grow after she graduates. One of the future standouts is sophomore Hannah Goldman, who also had the opportunity to compete at State. As a first-year wrestler Hannah was up against opponents who were very experienced, and she put up tough matches. She had a great time being able to go to State and is hoping to return in the future. Congratulations to our girls wrestling program and especially to our state champion, Andie Donahue.

On the boys side, senior Enrique Rannow and junior Carson Groff were the two Trojans who earned the opportunity to wrestle at State. Even though they did not win they still put up great matches and made the team proud. Both guys went 2-2 and ultimately lost in the blood round, which is the round to decide if you place or not. Their opponents were well experienced and made these matches tougher than before. The boys both still had a great time and were happy to be able to participate in the State meet. As he is a senior, this was Enrique Rannow's last match as a Trojan. He shared some advice to the future teams: "Work hard and have fun with the sport. If you want to win, then put in every amount of effort that you can."

Overall this was a fantastic season. Everyone put in a lot of hard work and now it has officially come to an end. The three seniors, Enrique, Andie, and Eli Kluth, should be proud of all they have poured into the Trojan wrestling program, they have left a legacy for all to follow. And of course, Andie Donahue will always be known as the first Trojan in school history to win State for wrestling....amazing.

Going forward, make sure to go out and support your VCS wrestling program as it continues to grow in size and success!

GO TROJANS!
