Four members of the Trojan girls wrestling team competed in the Girls Sectionals Meet this past weekend in hopes of making it to state. Overall our girls performed very well and began the final descent to the end of their season. Congratulations to Senior Andie Donahue and Sophomore Hannah Goldman for making it to the State Meet!
Andie had an outstanding performance and got 1st place in her weight class. She is currently preparing for state and is excited for this opportunity. She has been a leader on and off the mat to the underclassmen. She mentioned, "The girls have improved so much from the beginning of the season, and they continue to work hard." Andie will be one of the Trojan girls representing Valley Christian at state for wrestling.
The other girl that will represent Valley is Hannah Goldman. She also had a great outing at Sectionals and got 4th place. She is in her first year of wrestling and already qualified for state, a huge accomplishment. Hannah only wrestled in one match at sectionals, but she came out as the victor. She expressed, "I am excited to be going to state as a sophomore and plan to do my best." Hannah is happy to be a part of this experience so early in her wrestling career. Sadly, her twin sister, sophomore Bella Goldman, hurt her shoulder and in return was not able to qualify this time around.
Coach Snipes has been a big factor in helping the girls team get to where they are this season. He spoke on the importance of mental toughness in wrestling - "If your mind is not mentally tough, you will always lose." The girls know they will need to continue to work hard and stay mentally tough to compete well this weekend.
The girls have been working extremely hard this season and they have improved so much. The State meet will be the final outing for the Wrestling team for the 2023-2024 season. The girls state will be at Arizona Memorial Colosseum on February 16-17.
Make sure to go out and support your Trojans!
