Girls Basketball on a Tear Heading Into Playoffs

2/12/2024 2:43:00 PM

The Valley Christian girls basketball team has been on a tear recently, winning six games in a row. They started their hot streak with a 53-14 win over ALA West Foothills. The next three games were just as easy as they defeated Scottsdale Christian, Gilbert Christian, and Rancho Solano Prep, outscoring their opponents 180-90. The dominance continued as the lady Trojans took down Crismon 60-28 and Benjamin Franklin 63-24.

The Trojans are currently ranked #1 in their region and #4 in the 3A with a 14-1 overall record. With only three games remaining in the regular season, the Trojan girls will look to win out their schedule and improve their seed going into playoffs, as they make a push to win a state championship. Both the coaches and the players are ready for the upcoming playoffs.

The Trojans' 6 game win streak is a big deal, especially riding that momentum into the playoffs. Sophomore Ellie Phillips stated, "I am really proud of my team for how we have played for the past 6 games, winning all 6 of them. We're improving every game and the sky's the limit for this team. We are so ready to play our rivals, Gilbert Christian, and especially at home we are going to blow them out of the water."

The Trojans compete every week and are improving as a team and proving that they are not a team to look past. Senior Malia Tonkinson shared, "I am very proud of how far this team has come. Every game we get better and better, and we start to get in our rhythm. I'm excited to see how far this team can go in the playoffs and hopefully to bring home the trophy."

The Trojans have just three games left in the regular season; the biggest one circled on their calendar is when they will take on Gilbert Christian at home Friday February 2nd. Coming off a 52-33 win the last time these two teams faced off, the Trojans will be hosting the Knights and are ready to show that the win wasn't a fluke. This is a region game and is very important for the Trojans, so be there and support these ladies.
