Trojan Volleyball remains the only 3A team still undefeated

10/11/2024 9:56:00 AM

On Tuesday, September 10th, the Trojan Varsity volleyball team face off against longtime rivals, the Northwest Christian Crusaders. In the first two sets the Trojans were off to a rough start and had lost 18-25 and 22-25. The girls then stepped it up in the last three sets, narrowly winning the third set 25-18, the fourth set 25-23, and the fifth set 15-9. This became the second year in a row the Trojans had performed a reverse sweep on the Crusaders, finishing 2-3 overall. The victory came behind big performances from standouts such as freshman Lila Liimatta with 18 kills, junior Ellie Gregg with an outstanding 34 digs, and sophomore Sadie Wahlin with 6 blocks. This victory was huge for the Trojans.

The Trojans went on to play a double header against Monument Valley and Window Rock, which was recapped here.

Following their double header, the girls hit the road again to compete against the Thatcher Eagles on Thursday, September 19th. The Trojans dominated in the first set 25-14, after a long trek to the Eagles home court. They managed to keep their momentum going by winning the next two sets 25-12 and 25-19, closing out the match with a 3-0 win. The girls worked extremely well together in the match against the Thatcher Eagles and extended their regular season record to 6-0.

During Valley Christian's Homecoming week, on Tuesday, September 24th, the Trojans played the Globe Tigers in their first home match of the season. This was an uncharacteristically late first home game due to renovations taking place in Bradley Gym earlier in the season. The Globe Tigers struggled to beat the Trojans on their home court as the Trojans came out in dominant fashion and won in three quick sets. The first set was 25-7, the second set was 25-10, and the third 25-5. The victory was rather quick thanks to domination at the net from sophomore Sadie Wahlin's .1000 hitting percentage. Sophomore Sydney Simon, who also played an important role, hitting .900 added, "I think the game against Globe was a great game for our team to try new plays out. It was so fun to play our first home game in our newly renovated gym."

The Trojan volleyball team is currently the only undefeated team left in 3A. Make sure to keep up with the girls as they continue great season. They have eight more games and three of those games are home games.

They are also set to face off against tough opponents such as last year's 3A Champions, the Snowflake Lobos, as well as out of state teams, so make sure to tune in to those exciting matches.
