On Wednesday November 12th the Trojans took on the Gilbert Christian Knights. After coming off a 3-0 win the Trojans were looking like they were ready to defend their title as State Champions. The Trojans have had a untouchable season and weren't going to let anything or anyone get in their way. The Trojans beat the Knights after a tough match which they won 3-2.
Semifinals of volleyball playoffs were in full swing and the Trojans looked strong, but the Knights were matching their energy. Set one of the game ended with the Trojans taking set 1 25-19 The Trojans and the Knights were constantly going back and forth with who had possession. Both teams showed just how big of a game this was for their team. One play after another each team matched what the other put up. Point Trojans then Point Knights until the Trojans secured the match point.
Set 2 the Trojans carried over the energy from their last win. They were ready to dominate. The Knights weren't going to let the last match define the game for them. The Knights tried to keep up with the Trojans but their effort wasn't enough and they fell to the Trojans 26-24.
Now onto Set 3. This could have been the last set of the game if the Trojans kept the fire burning. The Trojans and the Knights were off as set 3 began. Rally after rally, point after point, and play after play. Everyone was on their feet cheering loud wondering who would come out on top. The Trojans matched every play the Knights made until the last 2 points. They were unable to stop the Knights and fell short 35-33.
Set 4 began and the Knights finally got out of their heads and came out as a dominate force. The tables have turned the the Knights are racking up point after point. The Trojans are tired, but weren't ready to give up. The Trojans tried to put up a fighting effort but the Knights couldn't be stopped this set and carry their previous momentum into this set leading them to a 25-10 win.
This was the moment of truth the Trojans and Knights were all tied up and whoever won the next set advances to the finals. Both teams appeared tired and had to dig down deep and give it all. Any little bit of energy left would have to be left all on the court. The Trojans rallied back and forth with the Knights. No one wanted to lose so they carefully made plays and tried to set their teams up for success. The Trojans showed their work ethic and drive to win it all again and came out with a win of 15-12 taking the whole match.
Junior Sadie Wahlin scored the last point of the whole match and was asked how does it felt to score the match point in such a vital game, Sadie's reply was, "it truly was the best feeling to win that game and I give all glory to God. We couldn't have done it without each other and every person on the team and I'm so proud of us for persevering. As a player, I've grown in my skills, but more importantly as a teammate."
Key leaders include Sydney Simon ('27) with 396 kills, Sadie Wahlin ('27) with 148 total blocks, Ellie Gregg ('26) with 427 receptions and 597 digs, and Ansley Venkatesh ('27) with 54 serving aces and 1045 assists.
The Trojans won and advance into the finals ready to double-down on a back-to-back Championship.
