Wrestling Team Finished well at Antelope Union Meet and Coolidge Lions Club Invite

1/29/2024 2:17:00 PM

The Valley Christian wrestling team has been busy with competition in the last couple of months. While the MarCom student writers and editors were having a nice and relaxing winter break, the wrestling team was hard at work competing in many different tournaments and matches. Two of the meets they competed in were the Antelope Union Multi Meet and the Coolidge Lions Club Invitational. The team had great success at these two meets, so without further ado let's jump in.

Antelope Union Multi Meet

On Wednesday, December 6th  the Trojan grapplers drove out towards Yuma to compete in the Antelope Union Multi Meet. While this was only the second meet of the season for most competitors, there were a few standout participants. Sophomore Caleb Goldman (132 lbs) went 4-0, including a win against a challenging Yuma Catholic opponent. Senior captain Andie Donahue (138 lbs) also had a great outing that included a win over River Valley in only 18 seconds. Senior captain Enrique Rannow had this to say about the meet, "it was very early on in the season and helped us to know where were at as a team and how we could improve against tough opponents in our division."

Coolidge Lions Club Invitational

Over Christmas break, on January 6th, the boys team headed out to Coolidge to compete in the Coolidge Lions Club Invitational. The meet included 15 different schools including several from higher divisions. Freshman Corben Cecil (157 lbs) placed 6th overall in his weight class and had the best outing of the day for the Trojans. Juniors Jake Rockafellow (150 lbs) and Carson Groff (285 lbs) were both able to get wins against Fountain Hills. Senior Eli Kluth (165 lbs) got a win against Santa Cruz. Rannow reflected on this meet as well, saying, "it was a good meet for the boys team. It allowed us to go against some of the best competition in the state and see how we stacked up against them."

Trojan boys wrestling was back in action Friday, January 26th, at the Rocky Nelson Mogollon Tournament. The next girls meet is Sectionals on February 3rd. Make sure to come out and support your Trojan Wrestling as the season comes to a close!
