Trojan Beach Volleyball Looking to Build Upon Last Season

2/28/2023 9:13:00 PM

The Trojan beach volleyball team is about to begin its season and are looking to take their games to the next level and win a team state title. Last year the girls lost a tough match in the Division II semifinals against the Flagstaff Eagles 1-4, who then went on to lose to the Salpointe Catholic Lancers in the state finals 0-5. While the loss of the Trojan number two pair, Cara Braun and Kylie Wong, is a big one, the team has reloaded and has the depth to make another deep run this season.

Seniors Kate Philips and Korah Nordin look to repeat from last year and win the pairs state champions for a second time in a row. Head Coach Tyler Trathen commented, "I'm very optimistic about the season and looking forward to seeing us make a run in the playoffs and getting a rematch against Flagstaff." The Trojan beach team also has a young and talented future with the new and upcoming freshmen and sophomore class who look to make a huge first impression. The girls have been waiting for this year and are as optimistic as ever as they look to take a state championship home for Valley.

As for the pairs, Kate and Korah are confident of their chances for this 2023 season. When asked does anything change knowing you are the top pair going into the season, Philips responded, "I think that we have confidence that we are going to do well this year, but we also know that it's important to stay humble and go into every game like we didn't win last year. We make sure to play to the best of our ability every time and treat every game like it was the finals from last year. So overall we are excited, but we are going into this season like it is any other season." They also believe when they leave, the team will be left in good hands with the incoming underclassmen. Nordin commented on this saying, "I am very confident with our upcoming beach team. We have a lot of great young players with huge talent and potential. Not to mention the team will remain in great hands with coach Tyler."

Make sure to come out and cheer on Trojan beach volleyball this spring!
