1/13/2023 2:05:00 PM

The Valley Christian Trojans Girls Varsity Basketball Team has hit the ground running, starting off the new year going 3-1 this last week against Rancho Solano Prep, Globe, ALA Ironwood, and Holbrook.

Our Trojans played the Rancho Solano Prep Mustangs on Tuesday, maintaining the lead the entire game, finishing with a big 58 to 38 point win. Freshman Ellie Phillips dominated on the court, leading the team with 10 points in the first half and finishing with 17 points overall. Ellie Phillips said "I was really happy with our outcome after beating them by 20. Our assistant coach hyped us up before the game, which I thought really brought us together."

The Trojans took to the road the following day to compete against the Globe Tigers. After a long bus ride, the girls needed a few minutes on the court to catch their feet and get in the zone. As the game progressed the ball was moving around the court swiftly on offense scoring a whopping 65 points in total. Defense came together to lock down the Tigers and hold them to only 27. Ending in a 65 to 27 point game, the Trojans secured the win over the Globe Tigers. Junior Jacqui LaGatta, who finished the game with 15 points, shared,  "I think the long drive together was really good for our team bonding. I think I played really well and we all had great chemistry the whole game."

That following Friday the Trojans took on ALA Ironwood home at Bradley Gym. Right off the bat the Trojans jumped to a 15 point lead by the end of the first quarter. Senior Sophia Moron lead with 11 points by halftime in a drastic 49-15 point game. Sophia said "I thought we played well especially as a team. We played together and had great ball movement. It was probably one of our best shooting nights we have had." The Trojans continued to dominate on the court, finishing with a big win of 79-28.

Valley Christian had a crowd this last Saturday in Bradley Gym against the Holbrook Roadrunners. Our girls started strong early in the game and were able to build a two point lead going into half. In the second half Holbrook fought back coming out strong, taking the lead by 6 points heading into the fourth quarter, 27-33. The girls battled hard all four quarters but came up short, ending the game 37-43.

The Valley Christian Trojans girls basketball team will compete next week against Pima high school and Gilbert Christian.
