Trojan Volleyball Reverse Sweeps the Gilbert Christian Knights

On September 3,2025 the girls volleyball team faced off against their long time rivals, the Gilbert Christian Knights. Going into this game, the Trojans knew this would be a tough game, but they were ready for battle. After a grueling match with neither team backing down, the Valley Christian varsity team secured a victory in the home non conference match against Gilbert Christian.

Set 1 the Knights won 25-18. Set 2 the Knights again took the set 25-19. At this point  Knights were on fire and seemed unstoppable.  With this pace the Trojans would have to win the next 2 sets to stay alive. If the Trojans didn't change something soon they were going to be in trouble. Set 3 the Trojans come back stronger and flip the trajectory of the match with a 25-26 win. This close of a set proves just how evenly the team were matched. Gilbert Christian wasn't just going to let the Trojans win easy. On thing was certain, the Trojans were determined and united not ready to go home. Some teams after loosing the first 2 sets could crumble, but the Trojans did the exact opposite and rallied together for a bigger purpose than themselves.

The match score was now 2-1. Needing to win the next 2 sets the Trojans were ready make a full fledged comeback. Set 4 was in full swing and filled with energy. This was the closest set of the match. A back and forth rally ending in the Trojans winning 27-25. Trojan fans were ecstatic. The Trojans were on a roll and not ready stop anytime soon. Determined not to loose to their long time rivals as set 5 began the Trojans came out prepared to dominate their competition . With a quick tie breaking set the Trojans bring home a match victory with a 15-6 win in set 5. After a tough fight that at first didn't look too hopeful for the Trojans they pulled off a rare turn of events a reverse sweep. Trojans win the match 3-2.

Ansley Venkatesh, who is one of this year's captains continues to be a star player. She talked about how important this game was to her and the team. "I am really proud of how the team came together and had the grit to win in 5. It was a really electric game to play in."

Team leaders included Elyse Wolf, Sadie WahlinAbby Grier, Ellie Gregg, and Ansley Venkatesh. Sophomore Elyse Wolf led with 8 kills and 9 receptions. Sadie Wahlin, who has been a standout player for a while now, played a great game with 3 blocks. With 7 total serving aces, Abby Grier led the team strong. Senior Ellie Gregg protected the floor and had great defense with 10 digs, and Ansley Venkatesh set the team up for a successful final few sets with an amazing 18 assists.

The Trojans had amazing passion and drive which contributed to their comeback after being down 0-2. VC won set 5 15-6 bringing the match score to 2-3. The Trojans didn't give up after the first 2 sets, but pushed through to a victory. The team played amazing together as a whole. What an amazing home opening game for the Valley Christian Trojans. This year the team is ready to defend their state championship and proved that they are ready to.
