Valley Christian Wins National Title in Thrilling PlayVS Cup Final

9/18/2025 9:00:00 AM

In the bright lights of the PlayVS Cup National Championship on June 5th, Valley Christian's Rocket League squad proved they weren't just Arizona's best – they belonged among the nation's elite. Facing powerhouse Prosper High School (TX) in a best-of-five final broadcast with professional commentators, the Trojans left everything on the virtual field in a thrilling back-and-forth clash that showcased resilience, chemistry, and raw talent.

A Cinderella Run With No Fear

Valley Christian had already turned heads by fighting through the 64-team bracket, though only 47 teams competed and some were awarded byes. From graduation day matches to their captain playing remotely on a family trip to Hawaii – battling a brutal 270-millisecond delay and still forcing Game 7 in the semifinals – the Trojans built a reputation for grit. By the time they reached the championship, they had become the underdog story of the tournament.

Championship Breakdown

Against Prosper, the Trojans delivered one of their most complete team efforts of the season. Every game was a slugfest of aerial battles, clutch saves, and highlight-reel goals.

  • Chase DeBoer ('25), the steady captain, finished the finals with 1,933 points, 5 goals, 3 assists, 7 saves, and 15 shots. Known for his composure, he kept the Trojans levelheaded and came up with massive stops, including a three-save performance in Game 4.

  • Sam Odom ('25), the glue of the roster, added balance across the series with 1,493 points, 3 goals, 3 assists, 5 saves, and 11 shots. His two-save explosion in Game 4 swung momentum back to Valley Christian when they needed it most.

  • Chris Meier ('27) stole the spotlight, turning in a performance that will be remembered in Valley Christian history. The sophomore racked up 2,508 points, 8 goals, 4 assists, 8 saves, and 18 shots in the finals – including a jaw-dropping 748-point, 3-goal, 4-save carry in Game 4 to force a series deciding game 5.

When the dust settled, it was Valley Christian who stood on top, crowned PlayVS Cup National Champions. The Trojans had climbed through 47 teams, survived every twist and setback, and capped it all off with a title-winning performance on the biggest stage in high school Rocket League.

More Than Just a Title

Even though the season ended with the Trojans hoisting the biggest trophy in school esports history, they know their true edge wasn't mechanics or stats – it was chemistry. The arrival of Odom this season transformed the roster, gluing everyone together. Chase kept everyone grounded. Chris brought flash and firepower. Together, they clicked in a way no opponent could match.

As Meier put it: "The greatest reason for winning was the chemistry of our team and the time we put in together."

A Legacy in the Making

This wasn't just Valley Christian's first national Rocket League title – it was a statement. The Trojans proved they can compete with anyone, anywhere, and with a young core returning, this may just be the beginning of a dynasty.

On June 5th, Valley Christian didn't just play for a championship. They played for each other – and they won it all.
