Valley Christian softball wraps up key regular season stretch with strong performances

5/1/2025 9:42:00 AM

The Valley Christian Trojans softball team showed grit and offensive firepower in their biggest regular season matchups, notching two dominant wins and a hard-fought loss as they continue to build momentum heading into the postseason.

Fraley's command performance leads Trojans over Seton Catholic Prep
Sophomore Makay Fraley was nearly untouchable on April 15th's 15-1 victory over Seton Catholic Prep, striking out 13 batters and allowing just one run on a solo homer in the first inning. The Trojans quickly responded with a three-run double from Sophie Kercsmar ('26), who went 2-for-4 with five RBIs on the day.

Valley Christian's bats stayed hot throughout the game. Leigha Kremlacek ('27) added a solo shot in the second (her second of the season), and a seven-run fourth inning sealed the deal. Fraley helped her own cause with an RBI single, while Maddy Harmon ('28) and Amelia Bowman ('27) chipped in with multiple hits. The Trojans tallied 13 hits overall in the win.

Jarles' Blast Highlights Win Over Snowflake
Valley Christian continued to roll with an 11-1 win over Snowflake on Friday. Ryann Nelson ('27) drove in three runs, and junior Abrielle Jarles smashed a two-run homer to center in a big fifth inning. Fraley once again dominated in the circle, allowing just three hits and striking out nine over five innings.

Lo Colvin ('28), Bowman, and Kercsmar all contributed multi-hit performances as the Trojans piled on 10 hits. Bowman also swiped two bases, adding pressure on the Lobos throughout the game.

Trojans come up short against Yuma Catholic despite 10 hits
In a closely contested battle, Valley Christian fell 5-3 to Yuma Catholic on April 21st despite outhitting the Shamrocks 10-4. The Trojans jumped early with RBIs from Fraley, Harmon, and Kremlacek, but defensive miscues and timely hitting from Yuma Catholic proved costly.

Taya Clausen ('25), Harmon, and Colvin each had two hits in the loss, which served as a valuable learning experience ahead of the playoffs.

Looking Ahead
These three matchups were key regular season tests for the Trojans, and the team proved they could hold their own – and dominate – against strong competition.

"These games showed showed that when we play as a team and stay locked in, we can compete with anyone. We've grown a lot this season, and I think we're peaking at the right time heading into playoffs." – Makay Fraley
