The Esports teams are one of the most under-talked about things here at Valley. Both the Super Smash Bros and the Rocket League teams have exceptionally good records, with the Rocket League and the Super Smash Bros team both being 5-0 so far this season. The Esports teams also play bigger schools in higher divisions and are able to compete with them and win most of the time as well. The Esports teams competed in multiple games this February and were able to continue their hot streak.
The Super Smash Bros Team played two games this month and were able to win both of those games. In the first game they played Canyon View, and they were able to win in a blowout of 6-0.
Wesley Gentala ('25),
Mecca Brisbon ('26), and Deryke Harp ('26) were all able to close out their matches going 2-0, making the final score 6-0. The next game on February 19
th was against Desert Ridge and they won 5-2. Captain
Wesley Gentala and junior
Mecca Brisbon led the way for the Trojans. The Smash Bros team played well this month and will carry this momentum into future games as well.
The boys continued their awesome win streak and won every Rocket League game during February alone. So far, they have won 3 out of 3 Rocket League games and are continuing to crush this season. On February 11
th, the Trojans won their first game. It was led by Chase DeBoer ('25),
Sam Odom ('25), and
Christopher Meier ('26), who played against Page High's varsity Rocket League team and won by a forfeit.
The second game was also led by
Chase DeBoer,
Sam Odom, and
Christopher Meier on February 13
th against West Point's Rocket League team. The boys dominated in all three rounds by a landslide. These three boys are a great asset to the team and are extremely talented. Game 1 was 9-0, game 2 was 6-0 and game 3 was a crazy outcome, with the boys winning by 17-0. This was more than a great game for the Trojans Esports team, bringing in another victory for the Trojans. They worked hard for their scores and showed their teamwork in the next game. Their Captain,
Chase DeBoer said, "We were well ahead of West Point in terms of skill so we used the game to practice new strategies and increase our chemistry."
The last game was on February 20
th, where they played against Cactus Varsity 3. They had another outstanding performance, winning all 3 games. This was led by the same people, and they continued to show how great their teamwork was by winning game 1 by 11-0, game 2 by 7-0, and game 3 by 6-0. The Esports Team is so good that even though the games are the best of 5 but they only need to play 3.
The next Super Smash Bros game is on February 26
th against Copper Canyon and the next Rocket League game is on February 27
th against Willow Canyon. Make sure to tune into the livestreams to support your Trojans!
