Valley Christian Girls Soccer came out strong during the last two weeks of their regular season. The Lady Trojans crushed Odyssey Institute, Page, and Bourgade Catholic as they hoped to move up in the conference rankings in order to maintain a home game advantage in the first round of playoffs.
On Wednesday, January 29
th, the Trojans competed against Odyssey Institute at an away game. Having not played the Minotaurs in a year, the Trojans who had played them in the 2022-2023 season hoped to beat the team that knocked them out of the playoffs that year. The girls came out strong in the first and second half, never wavering or playing off their game. The game resulted in a 3-0 victory, with goals scored by all three captains: junior
Sydney Paschich and seniors
Abigail Stipp and senior
Layla Heller.
On Friday, January 31
st, the Trojans made the long haul to play against the Page Sand Devils. Although they had woken up early and driven five hours, the Trojans stayed strong for the duration of the game, allowing only one goal in the second half. The ending score was 8-1. Sophomore
Raegan Randleman and senior
Libby Juist each scored. Senior
Abigail Stipp also scored not just once, but she put six goals in the back of the net which allowed her to beat the Valley record for girls' soccer career goals!
On February 4
th, the Trojans celebrated their seniors as they faced off against Bourgade Catholic. Although they were coming off two amazing wins, the girls didn't let it change their mindset about the Golden Eagles. The Lady Trojans came off determined, successfully beating Bourgade 13-0 in a phenomenal shutout. Seniors
Abigail Stipp,
Layla Heller, and
Emma Malmin each put a ball in the back of the net and other goals came from sophomore
Raegan Randleman. Senior
Abigail Stipp beat yet another record within the same week, beating Valley's girls' soccer single season goal record! It was definitely a senior night to remember, especially since senior
Emma Malmin scored her first goal of the season to end the night with a bang! Senior
Layla Heller said, "It was fun being on the other side of senior night after celebrating everybody else for three years. I'm really glad that we were able to come out on top and I can't wait for playoffs!"
After coming off three victories, the Trojans look forward to the state playoffs. They hope to go further than last year, as do all teams, and they are excited to see how far they will go with this amazing team. The Lady Trojans play Pusch Ridge on Wednesday, February 12
th at home for the first round of playoffs. Make sure to come out and support!
