The Valley Christian Softball team played their third playoff game on Friday, May 3rd, against the Yuma Catholic Shamrocks. Here is the recap…

Freshman Makay Fraley drove in four runs on two hits to lead the Valley Christian Varsity Trojans past the Yuma Catholic Varsity Shamrocks 8-1 on Friday. Fraley singled in the sixth inning, scoring four runs, and doubled in the third inning, scoring one.

Fraley struck out twelve batters on the day. They also surrendered three hits and one run over seven innings while walking seven. Makay Fraley states, "It was kinda funny because they were arguing about something they were wrong about. I can't remember much of what they were saying but I know it made me play my best and pitch really well."

Yuma Catholic were the first to get on the board in the first inning when an error scored one run.

Valley Christian then captured the lead, 3-1, in the bottom of the third after Fraley doubled, freshman Ryann Nelson singled, and senior Bree Hanzal singled, each scoring one run.

Freshman Leigha Kremlacek hit a solo home run to center field in the bottom of the fifth for the Valley Christian Trojans. Leigha Kremlacek exclaimed, "I think we were all stressed at first since it was such a big game, but once we got ahead and I hit my home run we kept scoring. We knew we were going to make it to state after this and it was super exciting!"

Cherish Trujillo began the game for Yuma Catholic. The starting pitcher allowed ten hits and eight runs (seven earned) over six innings, striking out two and walking one.

The Valley Christian Trojans collected ten hits in the game. Senior Caymen Ferber, sophomore Abrielle Jarles, and Makay Fraley each collected two hits for the team.

Alondra Cordova went 2-for-3 at the plate to the Shamrocks in hits. Kodi Leigh paved Yuma Catholic with two walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate piling up seven walks for the game. The Yuma Catholic Shamrocks turned one double play in the game.

After this amazing win the Trojan girls softball team is on their way to the State Championship on Saturday, May 11th, against the Empire Ravens at Arizona State University Softball Stadium. We need all Trojan fans to come out LOUD in their VICTORY BLUE!

Amazing job girls and good luck on the upcoming final game!
