Trojan Softball Dominates the Regular Season, Head to Playoffs Ranked #1

In the beginning of the season, the girls faced ALA-Anthem South, beating them 25-1. Senior Kat Hanson drove in four runs on three hits to lead Valley Christian. Junior Taya Clausen homered to center field, scoring two more runs.  

The girls then went on to play in the Dobson Westwood Tournament and went 5-1. Next, the Trojans then played in a regular season game against Fountain Hills. Senior Bree Hanzal led the team in RBI's by hitting a double and driving in two. A couple days later, the softball team traveled to Winslow to play again. Senior Caymen Feber singled, scoring one run, junior Libby Juist singled, scoring one run, and freshman Leigha Kremlacek doubled, scoring two runs.  

After a long two-week break from games, the girls played Pusch Ridge, beating them 9-5. Kat Hanson collected four hits in four at bats. Hanson singled in the first, second, fourth and sixth innings. A couple days later, they played in the Epic Tourneys Softball Classic and went 3-1.  

The Trojans then faced the Florence Gophers, beating them 10-2. Caymen Ferber was the run leader, driving in four runs on four hits to lead the Trojans. Shortly after, the team played ALA-Ironwood and beat them 14-2, freshman Amelia Bowman singled, scoring two runs, senior Allie Livengood singled, scoring one run, and freshman Makay Fraley tripled, scoring one run.  

Continuing the season into April, the Trojans faced off against Chandler Prep and won 15-2. Kat Hanson collected three hits in four at bats, Hanson hit an inside the park homerun in the first inning, doubled in the second, and singled in the fourth inning. After this matchup, the girls played ALA-Ironwood, dominating them once again 17-1. Leigha Kremlacek shoved in the circle, as they rang up 11 strikeouts. Kremlacek allowed four hits and one run over five innings while walking one.  

Benjamin Franklin was the softball team's next opponent. The girls beat them 20-1. Taya Clausen drove in six runs on two hits to lead the Trojans. Clausen hit a grand slam to center field in the first inning, scoring four runs, tripled in the second inning, scoring two. Valley Christian then faced their rivals, Gilbert Christian. The girls didn't back down and dominated them 21-1, with Caymen Ferber driving in four runs on three hits. Ferber doubled twice in the second inning, scoring three, and singled in the first scoring one. 

Valley Christian then played their hardest opponent, the Sabino Sabercats. The Sabercats have won the State Championship the past three years in 3A. This didn't scare the Trojans, who fought hard, winning the game 6-2. Makay Fraley was dominant in the circle getting 11 strikeouts. Fraley surrendered one hit and two runs over seven innings while walking three. The team then went on to play Scottsdale Christian, winning once again in a dominant fashion 20-0. Makay Fraley drove in four runs on two hits to lead Valley Christian.  

After these tough games, the Trojans played the Globe Tigers, winning 19-2. Freshman Ryann Nelson drove in four runs on three hits to lead the team. Nelson doubled in the fifth inning, scoring three runs, and doubled in the fourth inning, scoring one.  

San Tan Foothills was the next game for the softball team. In this game, Ryann Nelson drove in four runs on one hit to lead the Valley Christian Trojans past San Tan Foothills 22-0. Nelson blasted a grand slam to left field in the second inning.  

The girls faced Benjamin Franklin a second time, beating them 20-0. Kat Hanson drove in 5 runs on four hits. Hanson hit a grand slam to right field in the second inning, and singled in the third inning.  

On April 18th, it was the Trojan's Senior Night. It was a sad but memorable night for the 5 seniors. The team celebrated Caymen Ferber, Kat Hanson, Bree Hanzal, Allie Livengood, and Kinley Robinson. The team faced Gilbert Christian, annihilating them 24-2. Kat Hanson drove in six runs on three hits for the Trojans. Hanson hit a home run and doubled twice.  

For the Trojan's final game of the season, they took home the title of being Region Champions for the second year in a row. The matchup was against Coolidge. Leigha Kremlacek struck out 10 batters as the starting pitcher to lead Valley Christian past Coolidge 12-2.  

The Trojans have an overall record of 23-1, 9-0 being home, 8-0 away, and 6-1 neutral. This Saturday, April 27, at 11 am the Valley Christian Trojans face Coolidge for their first round of playoffs. Make sure to show up and support the Trojans on their road to the State Championship!
