Valley Christian Girls Soccer Wins Last Two Games of the Regular Season and Takes Home a Victory in the Play-Ins to Advance to the State Playoffs

2/9/2024 10:39:00 AM

The Valley Christian Trojans are on a winning streak, going 3-0 in their past three games. They started off strong by beating Horizon Honors 7-1 on January 25th. Soon after that victory, the Trojans battled against Rancho Solano Prep on their Senior Night, winning 3-1. The Trojans then advanced to a play-in game against the River Valley Dust Devils, winning 6-2 for an opportunity to compete in the state playoffs.

Throughout the Horizon Honors game the Trojans scored 7 goals, junior Laya Heller scored 2 and there was one goal a piece chipped in by freshman Tatum Mitchell, sophomore Sydney Paschich, sophomore Brielle Hunsaker, freshman Reagan Randleman, and junior Abigail Stipp. Together, the team had 2 assists and 16 points. Senior Makayla Rosscup shared, "after this game, the team's confidence rose, and it bonded the girls together. Knowing that we have the ability to work together and beat teams by that much really put us in a good mindset for our upcoming playoffs."

Three days later the girls took on Rancho Solano Prep at home for their senior night. Senior Faith Dibley scored 2 goals and Riley Randleman scored 1. As a team they had 2 assists and 8 points. At Goalkeeper senior Melody Clauss kept the Trojans in the game with 2 saves and 40 minutes. Junior Libby Juist said, "There was a lot of high energy from the game, and it really set the mood for our playoffs season. It also gives us a different feeling while playing especially when we know we have a chance that it could've been our last game."

Finally, with hopes of making it to the state tournament, the Trojans traveled to River Valley to take on the Dust Devils for their first play-in game. They played well as a team and ended up winning 6-2 to advance to Round 1 of the State Tournament. Tatum Mitchell and Raegen Randleman led the team by scoring 2 goals a piece and Sydney Paschich and senior Abi Higgins each added 1 goal of their own.

The #14 Valley Christian Girls Soccer team is now scheduled to take on the #3 Northwest Christian Crusaders on February 7th away at 6:00. The last time the Trojans faced the Crusaders they lost 0-7, so they're working hard to change that finish this time around.

Make sure to come out and cheer on the girls! Go Trojans!
