The Valley Christian Mountain Bike club killed it at their double header this past weekend. They took on two races out at McDowell Mountain Regional Park this past weekend, starting with a Short Track race on Friday.
Day one the Trojans didn't come away empty handed, with junior Emma Clark coming away with the win in the Varsity Girls race and senior Liam Clark earning a third-place medal in the Varsity Boys race. Emma won with a nice lead, winning by 11 seconds in a 20-minute race. Liam fell a little short and lost in the final seconds, losing by 9 seconds. Both freshmen competed in their first race of the season, with John Forte finishing 18th in a big field and Kate Schumann competing in her first mountain bike race ever and finished 11th in a stacked freshmen girls' category.
Day two the Trojans once again came away with a medal. Junior Emma Clark once again earned the win in the Varsity girls race, winning by a minute and forty-nine seconds. She also ended the season undefeated and won the series in the varsity girls category. She also punched her ticket to state champs on March 16th. Senior Liam Clark ended up not finishing the race due to a flat tire on the second lap, but his previous results were enough for him to also punch his ticket to state in March!
The Mountain Bike club ended up finishing the season 9th out of 15 teams in the team competition. Considering their size the team, they held their own against some big teams this season. Their next race is Saturday, March 16th down at Old Tucson Studios in Tucson Arizona. Emma and Liam Clark will compete for the girls and boys varsity state titles and Junior Emma Clark is looking to repeat and become a back-to-back state champion! Join us in wishing the team good luck at State.
LET'S GO TROJANS!
