11/15/2024 9:19:00 AM

On September 25th, the Trojans traveled to Seton Catholic Prep to face off against the Sentinels. It was expected to be a close game as the Trojans and the Sentinels are the top ranked teams within the 3A Central Conference. The Trojans were able to overtake the Sentinels in the first set, 25-20 and managed to keep the momentum going. The second and third sets went similarly as the Trojans finished out the match 25-21 in the second set, and 25-14 in the final set. This impressive performance by the Trojans was aided by standout players such as freshman Lila Liimatta with 10 kills, junior Eliana Gregg with 34 service receptions, and sophomore Sadie Wahlin with 10 kills and 3 solo blocks.

The following week the Trojans battled it out on their home turf against the Coolidge Bears. The Trojans were able to put on a dominating performance as they swept the Bears 25-10 in the first set, 25-7 in the second, and 25-6 in the third. Throughout the match, sophomore Ansley Venkatesh was able to keep up the pressure as she served 94.1% and had 6 aces from the service line. Other standouts during the match included senior Taylor Miser with 7 kills, junior Emma Smith with 10 digs, and senior Madison Brown-McAlpine with 32 assists.

Trojan Volleyball continued their dominating streak as they played against the Apache Junction Prospectors on the 3rd of October. The Trojans started off strong as they triumphed over the Prospectors in the first and second sets, with dominating finals scores of 25-9 in both sets. The Prospectors attempted to comeback in the third set, but the Trojans still managed to outlast them 25-21, which won them the match. Sadie Wahlin managed an impressive 13 kills, bringing her season total to 240, and a career total of 413. Wahlin added, "I'm so proud of this team, we have been undefeated so far and I think going into playoffs we will bring amazing energy and competitiveness."

The Trojans continue to stand tall over the 3A Division as the #1 ranked team with an undefeated record. The strong and interconnected team from last year's state runner-up title combined with new addition of freshmen Lila Liimatta and Elyse Wolfe, forms one of the most dominant Valley Christian Volleyball teams in recent history. The Trojans hope to improve upon last year's finish. Junior Ellie Gregg expressed, "I am so proud of our team this year and how much we've grown together, and I'm looking forward to hopefully winning state with this team!"

Make sure to come out and support the Trojans as they continue their season and compete in the state tournament. Go Trojans!
