Trojans Take On Defending State Champions, the Snowflake Lobos, Tonight in Bradley Gym

9/5/2023 9:28:00 AM

The 2023 Valley Christian Varsity volleyball team kicked off their season last week with two away games against Globe and Scottsdale Christian. The Trojans came out on top 3-0 in both matches, beating Globe handily, but having to overcome a little pressure from Scottsdale Christian to take the victory. Final scores against SCA were 25-21, 26-24, and 25-21. The team played very well and it was a great start to the season. SCA and VCS both demonstrated great sportsmanship in the matchup and competed in a way that honored God.

The Valley Christian Trojans will now take on the 2022 State Champions, the Snowflake Lobos, this week on Tuesday, September 5th. The Lobos and the Trojans have been rivals for several years now as both continually turnout high quality volleyball teams. For the past couple years, these two teams have played each other during the State tournament in the quarterfinals or finals. Every time the two teams have battled, it has been a very close game. In 2021, our Varsity Volleyball beat the Snowflake Lobos in the finals in three sets, taking the state title. The following year, the Valley Christian Trojans had a tough loss against the Northwest Crusaders and were not able to face the Snowflake Lobos in the finals.

Last year in the regular season, the Trojan girls traveled to Snowflake and had a tough game against the Lobos, losing a close game in 5 sets. This year, the Trojans are ready to take on the Lobos here at home. The girls are counting on the Blue Crew to show up and be loud and help them take the win in at home in Bradley Gym. This will be a thrilling game to attend and should be a great game to watch as the rivalry is high.

Senior Captain Avery Schmidt shared her thoughts on preparation for the game. "We plan to take one point at a time and one set at a time. After our loss against Northwest last year when we were unable to play Snowflake in the finals, we are super excited to get the opportunity to play them at home this year."

The Valley Christian volleyball team is really hoping for a big crowd tonight and desire for everyone to go all out. If you plan on attending, the theme for the game is blackout, so show up in your all-black gear.
