All three Trojan soccer teams traveled all the way to Thatcher this past Wednesday. Last year the Thatcher Eagles' girls team finished 11th overall and the boys team finished 10th. Coming into the game the Trojan teams knew it would be a tough battle.
The JV Boys kicked the games off at 2:00 PM and after a tough battle, they fell short 5-1.
The next game was up, and the girls were ready to kick off. After coming off a rough weekend, the Lady Trojans were looking to get a game back and beat the Eagles. However, the Thatcher offense showed to be too much as they took an early lead. The girls did not back off though and fought hard for the rest of the game. The final score was 5-0 Thatcher, and the Trojan girls team moved to 2-1 on the season.
The Boys varsity team was up to play after a long day of traveling, but they were ready to step up and bring home the first win of the day for the Trojans. Senior Evan Bliss shared, "coming into the game, the energy was high because we knew It would be a tough game and we had to lock in". The Trojans came out hot as soon as the game started. The ball was on Thatcher's side for the majority of the first half with constant pressure on the Eagles. Coming into halftime, the score was tied 0-0 and the team knew that if they wanted to win they had to score some goals.
The second half started, and the Trojans were starting to slow down. With various injuries to players, the game was starting to wrap up. With 3 minutes left in the game, the Trojans let up a vital mistake which led to a penalty kick for the Eagles. With a routine shot the Eagles had the first lead all game with three minutes left on the clock. The Trojans did not give up, battling as hard as they could for the last minutes of the game. However, the Eagles held on, and the Trojans fell short. After a tough battle against what is sure to be a playoff caliber opponent, the Trojan Boys team moves to 0-1-1.
