Trojan Volleyball is going into today’s State Championship Matchup with Excitement and Confidence

11/10/2023 9:19:00 AM

This past Tuesday the Trojans played a phenomenal game against Northwest Christian, putting us through into the finals for the chance to be the next 3A state champs.

Today is the state championship game at 1 PM and our Valley Christian girls volleyball team will be facing the previous state champions, the Snowflake Lobos, at Arizona Veteran's Memorial Coliseum. Your Valley Christian girls volleyball team is currently ranked #1 in the Arizona Conference 3A rankings, while Snowflake is ranked at #3. The Trojans have had a great season so far and are currently 31-8 while Snowflake is 31-11, so today's game will be pretty exciting.

We will have several strong players on the court such as junior Kelsey Brooks, who currently has 310 kills on the season. We also have senior captain Avery Schmidt, who has 66 service aces and 411 digs. Our outstanding freshman, Sadie Wahlin, leads at the net right now with an impressive total of 119 blocks for the season. Overall, the Valley Christian girls volleyball team's stats are a lot better than Snowflake's. We currently have 1228 kills while Snowflake only has 1098; for serving aces we have 375, whilst Snowflake only has 268. Then, for digs we have 1542 while Snowflake only has 1281. While this could be due to playing a few more games, we saw that the Trojans ousted the Lobos in three straight sets earlier this season, so we predict that the stats and scores of the game tonight will be in our favor once again.

Junior captain Madi Brown-McAlpine is having an amazing season so far, she has gotten 700 assists and has been leading her team to victory on offense. Madi shares about how her team feels about tonight's game. "I think we're all going into this game with confidence. Today is the day that our entire season has led up to, and I didn't have one doubt that we wouldn't get here." Brown-McAlpine was part of the 2021 state championship team her freshman year, and said, "I am excited because I can't wait to not only remember how amazing it felt freshman year, but also to see my teammates, especially the freshmen, when they walk in and realize just what this game means." Madi is excited for her teammates to experience that once in a lifetime feeling (or twice in her case) of playing in a state championship game. She finished, "I think that honestly, we are going to win tonight, but it is our choice. If we go out there and play for the glory of God, I believe we are unstoppable."

Good Luck Trojans!
