Trojan Girls Bounce Back and are Fighting for a Playoff Spot

1/31/2023 2:18:00 PM

The Valley girls soccer team played Arete Prep on Wednesday January 11th. The game was full of emotion with six total goals scored, ending in a 3-3 tie and the ambulance came onto the field late in the game. Trojan goals were scored by sophomore Abigail Stipp, freshman Sydney Paschich, and sophomore Layla Heller

Sophomore Abi Higgins was playing a good game until someone tripped her, "I hit my head on the ground and lost full feeling on the left side of my body. Someone then called the ambulance and as we waited for them, my team huddled around me a prayed for me. When I was in the ambulance, they told me I most likely had a very bad concussion. The Trojan team kept praying for me. When I got to the hospital, the doctor said I didn't have a concussion, which I felt was all because of the prayers of my team."

The team next played Tempe Prep on Saturday, January 14th. The girls won 4-2 with an impressive performance from the whole team. This was senior Kylie Brown's debut, after coming back from an injury, and she had a very impressive game. When Coach Lynn subbed her in, she immediately made a big difference, scoring all four of the Trojan goals. Kylie's first goal was assisted by Abigail Stipp, she dribbled past two people then crossed the ball over the keeper and Kylie Brown took it out of the air into the goal. "When I was subbed into my first game in four years, I scored within the first minute of being on the field, which felt amazing," Brown said. Junior keeper Melody Clauss also produced some big saves and freshman Brielle Hunsaker was named Max Preps Player of the Game.

On Tuesday, January 17th, the Valley girls took on Veritas Prep at home. They fought hard, but with injuries and sickness they were missing many players, and ultimately lost 0-6 loss. The girls were hungry to win their next game after this.

On Friday, January 20th, the Valley girls played their rivals, Chandler Prep. Even though Valley was missing its starting goalkeeper, Sydney Paschich stepped up and made big saves to help the Trojans get a 2-1 win. Kylie Brown scored the first goal and Abi Higgins was credited with the second.

The Trojans play again on Monday against Gilbert Classical, which will also be senior night.

Come out and support your Trojans at 4:00 PM.
