On January the 23
rd, the Trojan Boys Basketball team faced off in a highly anticipated matchup against Florence, with both teams coming in with only one loss. While everyone was anticipating a close matchup, the Trojans came out strong, finishing 90-65 and solidifying their dominance in the region. The leading scorers in the game,
Kyle Grier ('25),
Carson Grier ('25), and
Colby Jessup ('26) combined for 73 points of the total 90 for the Trojans. Carson continued his average double-double per game, putting up 13 points and 18 rebounds. Colby once again came in firing shots up all night, shooting 45% from the three point line. This was a good test as they look to play the #2 seed, Gilbert Christian on Saturday, January 25
th.
January 25
th brought an exciting matchup between the #1 ranked Valley Christian Trojans and the #2 ranked Gilbert Christian Knights. The Knights packed out their gym for the matchup of the year, in hopes to take the #1 seed heading into playoffs. The Trojan boys had other things in mind.
Carson Grier came in firing up shots, going 13-22 from the field. He had 29 points, 9 rebounds, and 8 assists. Valley Christian never trailed in the game and their biggest lead was 26 points. The final score, 76-52, gave the Trojan boys lots of confidence in finishing the season strong and setting themselves up well heading into their last three games before playoffs.
It was a bloodbath on the night of Tuesday, January 28
th, when the Trojans took on Coolidge in a region matchup. The Trojans came out with another dominant victory, finishing with a score of 90-36. A strong performance from
Colby Jessup helped propel the Trojans to a defeat of the Bears. The Trojans shot 18-41 from beyond the arc and played magnificent defense, blocking 4 shots and grabbing 14 steals. The back end of the bench saw about a quarter of action on the court. Freshman
Moose Tamlyn had 3 points, freshman
Jacob Moyers had 3 points, and sophomore
LT Henley had 2. It was a good win for the Trojans and gave the bench some confidence for the rest of the season.
