The Valley Christian Trojans press on towards state in the competitive run at Crossroads Park. With a
relatively flat and lightly hilly playing field, there was room for head-to-head sprints bringing challenges to overcome for all racers. Ms. Brecht, the cross-country head coach had some insight on the course, "The course was
somewhat difficult with some hills and grass. Thankfully, we had beautiful weather."
Girls came in second place for sectionals and boys came in sixth, both qualifying for state
showcasing the talent the team has offered this season. Boys
Micah Newkirk (Sr.) and
Cody Sigerud (Sr.) both received medals and girls Ellie Philips (Sr.), Emmy Philips (Fr.),
Mara Mellberg (Jr.), and
Ellie Edwards (Sr.) also received medals for their placements in the overall times.
The PRs for the race included
Julianne Hall (Fr.) 26:06.0 and
Tanner Campbell (So.) 19:05.9. We asked Julianne how she felt after her PR and she said, "I was proud of myself to get a PR on a difficult course." The whole team has been striving significantly upward in obtaining PR's and it
seems to be almost every race where someone is running better, truly a dedicated team.
The team readily qualified for state, is training extensively, getting right into the mindset of a warrior Trojan. The sword now drawn, we are excited and awaiting as the Trojans run at great speed like chariots of fire.
