Valley Christian boys soccer played two tough opponents the week of January 13th. They played against Tonopah Valley and Gilbert Christian. Tonopah Valley's record was 3-10, while Gilbert Christian's overall record was 8-3-1, heading into these games.
The Trojans fought hard against Tonopah Valley High School, on Monday January 13
th. The Trojans drove an hour away to get to the game. Both teams found the net multiple times, with the result of 6-3 for the Trojans. Valley Christian scored their most goals since their Apache Junction game earlier in the season. Seniors
Isaiah Macias and
Ryan Henderson each scored one goal. Sophomore
Elijah Mims and senior
Jose Amancio-Ramos each scored two goals and helped lead the team to a win. Senior
Will Groen and Mims each had key assists and
Isaiah Macias also had two assists to lead the Trojans.
Trojan Soccer also played against rival school Gilbert Christian High School that same week, on Wednesday January 15
th. This match up was an away game for the Trojans. Our boys soccer team played hard but lost, with the final score being 0-4. This was the Trojans' first region loss of the season. The Gilbert Christian Knights put up tough competition against the Trojans, eventually pulling away after a close first half. Senior defender
Will Groen shared, "it was a hard loss for the team, but we are looking forward to the rest of the season. I am proud of how the team fought against Gilbert Chrisitan."
Both of the games that week were away games. Valley Christian Boys Soccer has a few more games left in the regular season before playoffs begin. The Trojans face off against Odyssey Institute and Page the week of January 27th.
