On Friday September 10th, the Valley Christian Trojans took on the Thatcher Eagles at Thatcher High School for their third game of their schedule. The Trojans knew this was going to be one of their tougher games during this season and unfortunately came up short, 13-33 for their 2nd loss of the season.
The first quarter started off with a Thatcher touchdown to put them up 6-0. The Trojans bounced right back with an 18-yard touchdown pass from Isaiah Macias (12) to Kristian Schoenhals (10) to put the Trojans up 7-6. Addison Morgan (12) had a momentum killing sack at the end of the first quarter to build the confidence and passion for the Trojans.
Going into the second quarter the team looked like they were shaping up to triumph over the Eagles. The momentum was sadly killed in the 2nd and 3rd quarters and the Trojans ended up falling behind 7-19.
The fourth quarter was electrified by a fumble recovery from Ethan Hodgson (11) to give the boys a surmountable 13-19 deficit. When Ethan was asked about the change in momentum he said, "it gave us the hope we needed to attempt a comeback." At that moment the Trojans were persistent and confident in attaining their second win of the season to keep them from falling to 1-2.
Unfortunately, the Eagles bounced right back with a touchdown and a pick 6 to seal the win. When sophomore Caden Palmquest was asked about what went wrong he made it known that "the defense was locked in, especially in the second half, but the offense was slow."
The Trojans still have quite a few games left and the season is still far from over. The team fell this time around but hope to see the Eagles again later in the playoffs to avenge this devastating loss.
