Coming off a semi-final finish, the Valley Christian Trojan football team is looking to make another deep playoff run this season. After the team saw 15 seniors move on, Coach Petersen and the staff are looking for some new and returning players to fill leadership roles and key positions right away.
The two that are expected to fill the void at quarterback are Isaiah Macias (12) and JR Gill (11). Macias had transferred to Valley from Vista Grande mid-year last year and is new to Trojan football. JR Gill was a part of the program after moving to Arizona his sophomore year. They are looking to lead an offense behind one of the best offensive lines in the state. Leading the pack are twin brothers Hudson and Lorden Pickett (11), Addison Morgan (12), Jackson Kuyoth (11), and Alex Hons (11). Each one of these guys gained valuable varsity experience last season.
On the defensive side of the ball, one of the leaders is senior Luke Snyder. When Luke was asked about the summer and the upcoming season, he said, "I'm excited to see the team's growth as we continue to play this season. I have already seen so much growth from the first practice of the summer until now." Another key player is Ethan Gomez (12). When asked about the upcoming schedule this season, Ethan said, "I am really looking forward to the game against Paradise Honors because they are a team that beat us twice last year, including the semifinal loss. I am also looking forward to Gilbert Christian because that rivalry game is always fun."
The Trojans opened up the season at home against Tempe on August 23rd with a convincing 48-0 win and will play away against Florence tonight at 7:00 PM. Some other key games are the homecoming game against Bourgade Catholic on September 27th as well as Senior Night on October 25th against Payson.
