2/12/2024 4:17:00 PM

As our Trojans continue to dominate, the second half of the season comes to a close, and the Valley Christian Trojans are ranked #1 in the 3A boys basketball division. They will head into playoffs within the next few weeks and go for their 3-peat state championship title. Although there have been some injuries and line-up changes late into the season, the boys have adjusted quickly, maintaining a 13-0 record in the regular season.

The past few weeks, boys basketball has had some amazing games. On Saturday, January 20th, the boys played a close and intense game against ALA Ironwood and came out with a 74-61 win. Senior Luke Shaw said, "it was a great game despite the refs not being on our side. The atmosphere was intense and I'm proud of our guys for pushing through."

On Friday, January 26th, they played Benjamin Franklin and won 90-35. The next day, on January 27th, the boys competed against ALA Anthem South and beat them 72-24.  After these two blowouts, the Trojan boys basketball team recognized that blowout games are important because it shows how well rounded the team is.

On Friday, February 2nd, the team played against Gilbert Christian at home, and came out with an 86-64 victory for the Trojans. This game was filled with excitement and energy from both students and players. Valley's student section, the Blue Crew, was posted on the official student section report Instagram page for the amount of spirit brought at the Gilbert Christian game.

On Monday, February 5th the Trojans traveled to Coolidge to take on the Bears. They ended with another victory of 72-57.

The Trojans will close out their regular season on Wednesday, February 7th, against the Florence Gophers. This will be their last home game and senior night. The senior night ceremony will begin around 6:45 before the game starts at 7 and will not only honor our senior boys basketball players, but girls basketball, cheer, and wrestling as well. Senior Michael Gowans shared, "I'm excited to finish off the season with a great win with my senior boys."

State playoffs will begin next week with the first and second rounds. The following week will be the Quarterfinals, Semifinals, and Finals. If the Trojans continue to be ranked first headed into playoffs, they will have a bye the first round.

As regular season is coming to a close, the team has been watching a lot more film of their upcoming opponents to prepare for the games. Their biggest opponent they have going into playoffs is Gilbert Christian. Senior Jake Harrison shared about what the team is thinking about going into playoffs: "our mindset heading into playoffs is don't lose and play our game." The Trojan boys are looking forward to the three-peat and are very confident heading into these games. They are excited to get the third championship that they have been working towards all season. Trojan boys basketball has had a successful and exciting season and are exhilarated to dominate until the end.

Good luck, Trojans!
