On December 3, 2024, The Trojans took on the Apache Junction Prospectors. The Trojans are fresh off their 3rd place performance at the "Thanksgiving 'Fear the Hop'" basketball tournament and looked to come in and get a dominant win in their region.
The Prospectors came in with an unexpected energy and looked to try and take out the reigning state champions and gain a huge win for their region. As the first half of basketball started, the Trojans matched their opponent's energy and came out just as strong. The Trojans led the half the whole way through and finished with a strong 25+ point lead by halftime.
Going into the third quarter, the Trojans looked to close out Apache Junction. The second half was much like the first and the Trojans were relentlessly scoring. Valley Christian ended up closing out the game 84-43 not allowing The Prospectors to have any breathing room. Head Coach, Greg Haagsma, mentioned "I was very impressed with how our boys showed love in our play last night."
Although, most stunning thing about this game was by far the show that was put on by the Grier brothers. Kyle Grier had a career-high 37 points to go along with a jaw-dropping 8 three-pointers. Carson Grier had his second triple-double of the season leading the Trojans to the blowout victory. When Carson Grier was asked about how the overall game went, he said "the win is a great momentum builder for our next game".
The Trojans look to face off against the Yuma Catholic Shamrocks in their next game and hope to see a similar victory. Regardless of who they play next, the Trojans look to keep plowing through the season and continue to pursue another state championship.
