Trojans Win Back-to-Back Games Against Rivals

1/25/2024 10:19:00 AM

After a big win against Holbrook with the score of 91-50 on January 6th, the Trojans faced off against two of Valley's biggest rivals in Scottsdale Christian Academy and Gilbert Christian High School.

Scottsdale Christian was the Trojans first victim of the weekend. Scottsdale Christian came into the game 4-8, losing to Northwest Christian just two days earlier. Despite a losing record, it was going to be a tough game due to the rivalry between the two teams. The Trojans came out strong and fast, winning the game by a whopping 37 points with the final score of 73-36. Senior Luke Shaw led the team in scoring with 28 points followed by juniors Carson and Kyle Grier with 11 points each. Carson Grier reflected on the game saying, "We started off slow in the first quarter, but we picked it up and started pulling away in the second half and we ended up winning by almost 40. We moved the ball well throughout the game."

The second game of the weekend was against Gilbert Christian who had a 12-3 record and ranked number 5 in the 3A heading into the game. The Trojans defeated the Knights 82-68 in a high scoring matchup. Shaw led in scoring once again with 32 points, while also amassing 7 assists. Carson Grier had 14 points and Austin Wallace finished with 11. When senior Austin Wallace was asked about the Gilbert Christian game he said, "It was a good game, we started fast in the first half but lacked scoring in the second half. If we play two complete halves of basketball, we can definitely beat them again next time." The next time the Trojans face off against the Gilbert Christian Knight will be February 2nd at home.

After these two rivalry games the Trojans are 18-2 and ranked number one in 3A.
