Trojan Boys Soccer Plays in the Bohdie Larson and Comes Away with Big Wins

1/22/2024 4:46:00 PM

Over the long Christmas break, our Trojan boys soccer team took part in the Bohdie Larson Classic Tournament, hosted by Chandler Prep. They faced off against Arcadia, San Tan Foothills, Trevor G. Brown and Arete Prep.

On the first day of the tournament, the boys won their first game in a nail-biter against 4A Arcadia. The match was tied 1-1 going into the late second half. Freshman Sean Moore broke out and drove down the side, scoring a beautiful goal from the post, effectively sealing the game. The second game of the first day was much more difficult for our Trojans. Despite playing hard, they unfortunately fell to San Tan Foothills in a 0-1 loss.

On the second and third day of the tournament, the Trojans were able to turn it around. On December 29th, they easily faced their hardest competition yet. The Trojans faced off against the much larger 6A Trevor G. Brown Bruins. The game was close until the very end, but the Trojans were down at a deficit of 0-1. Senior Jacob Leppert was able to score a beautiful header off of a throw-in, tying the game and scoring the team's lone goal. Regulation ended, and the game went into penalties. Valley was able to seal it in penalties, pulling off the upset. On the final day of the tournament, our Trojans played Arete Prep. The game was a shutout, defeating the Chargers 2-0. Both goals came from Senior Talon Shoffner, one of them coming off of a penalty kick.

The Trojans have eight games remaining in the season. They go back into regular season play with a concerted effort to keep their playoff hopes alive. When asked about the remainder of the season, Senior Cole Thomas said "We didn't have the best start so we're looking forward to winning out to secure a playoff spot."

Come out and see the Trojans in action this Wednesday at 6 PM at home!
