In week 2 of the Valley Christian football season, the Trojans match up against the 1-0 Florence Gophers. The team is ready for their game, coming off a dominating win over Tempe High last week, 45-2. The Trojans are very excited to get to play at the NAU Skydome once again after a thrilling win there against ACP last year.
Florence is a heavy run team, gaining 409 yards on the ground against Gilbert Christian. Junior middle linebacker Luke Snyder stated, "it is going to be a fun day for inside backers, Caleb Lewis and I, to proceed to get a lot of tackles and I hope to come out of this game 2-0, anticipating a tough game against Thatcher in week three."
Florence's leading rusher, Josh Jackson, ran for 256 yards and 4 touchdowns last week. We asked senior linebacker Caleb Lewis how prepared he thinks the team is to stop Jackson rushing this week. Lewis said, "I say we are prepared; we watched a lot of film and have seen how he likes to run. Also, we're going to try and slow him down in the backfield, making him less effective."
We asked Senior Lineman Harrison Barrett how he feels about playing in the Skydome once again and he said, "we played there last year and came out with a win, so we hope to repeat that, and we are all very excited for this game."
This game will be played at a neutral site at the NAU Skydome on Saturday, August 26th at 7:00 PM. It sounds like the Trojans are prepared and ready for this week's game against the Florence Gophers.
Go Trojans!
