The Valley Christian Trojan softball team faced a tough competitor on Tuesday, April 11th, at home. They were playing against the defending 3A State Champions and the #1 team in the state, Sabino Sabercats. Coming into the matchup the Trojans were undefeated with a record of 10-0. In their 10-0 win streak the Trojans outscored their opponents 123-16. Even during a win streak the girls' eyes stayed focused on a daunting upcoming matchup against the Sabercats.
On Tuesday night the Trojans struggled both at the plate and on defense, giving up an early 5-0 lead going into the 4th. Unfortunately, the Trojans could not find a spark and left 15 runners in scoring position and were unable to score a run. Despite the Trojans' efforts, the Sabercats ultimately won the game 10-0. While the loss was undoubtedly disappointing for the Trojans, it was a valuable learning experience for the team. Facing a tough opponent like the Sabercats can help the Trojans identify their weaknesses as a team and work to improve their game moving forward.
It's important to remember that one loss does not define a team. The Trojans have worked hard all season to get to this point, and they should be proud of all they have accomplished so far. With determination and hard work, they can bounce back from this defeat and continue to make a strong run in the state playoffs.
The Trojans were ready to bounce back from the loss in a game scheduled against Scottsdale Christian on Thursday of last week, but unfortunately the Eagles did not have enough players to field a team and had to reschedule. The girls enjoyed a solid team practice and are looking forward to picking up their win streak in their next scheduled game against Globe High School.
