Varsity Boys Soccer Season Starts with an 0-0 finish against Bourgade

12/9/2023 2:42:00 PM

The Trojan boys soccer team played against the Bourgade Catholic Eagles on Tuesday, which ended in a draw in overtime. Last year the Trojans also kicked off the season against the Eagles, which also resulted in a tie, 3-3. This year, the Varsity Boys team was able to keep a clean sheet against Bourgade and the game ended in overtime 0-0.

Coming into this season, the Trojans had lost a majority of their starting lineup as they had graduated, so this year they have had the addition of several new players. Despite this huge change in the roster, the Varsity boys team was able to keep the Eagles from scoring. Senior captain Anders Mellberg said, "we knew it would be a tough game and we had to go out there and hit them hard". The boys did this well as throughout the first half the Trojans had multiple attempts at goal. "Unfortunately, we couldn't finish our chances, but it was good to see our defense play so great", Mellberg continues. The Trojans defense, led by senior captain Carson Rowe, was able to keep the high scoring Eagles' offense to 0 goals.

The Trojans move to 0-0-1 as they will get in shape for the Benjamin Franklin Early Bird Boys Soccer Classic. Senior Carson Rowe says "We're excited to get some extra work in before the long stretch of games later in the season. I'd say our biggest goal for this tournament is to build our chemistry as a team and get lots of players in rotation".

The team will get ready the rest of the week for the big weekend ahead.
