Trojan boys basketball has had a great start to the season. They are currently undefeated with a record of 4-0 for regular games. This year they have six seniors, four juniors, and two sophomores. The Trojan boys have played Globe, Smoky Hill (CO), Pusch Ridge, and Benjamin Franklin. They have destroyed every opponent and had an amazing win against the 6A team from Colorado, Smoky Hill, defeating them 73-65. The boys are ready to conquer the rest of the season and are hopeful for a state champion three-peat.
Last weekend, December 7-9th, the Trojans competed in the Pepsi Holiday Tournament in Flagstaff. They ended 5-0 this weekend and won the tournament. They played Winslow, Kingman Academy, Flagstaff High School, Arizona Lutheran Academy, and Arizona College Prep. Their first game was against Winslow on Thursday, where they won with a score of 88-59. The Trojans then took on Kingman Academy on Friday morning, dominating once again with a final score of 62-37. Later that day they played Flagstaff High School and earned their third win for the weekend with a score of 75-51. On Saturday morning they faced off against Arizona Lutheran Academy, who they beat 89-36. The last game they played was the championship game against ACP on Saturday night. Seniors Luke Shaw and Austin Wallace had an amazing game, leading the Trojans by scoring 45 out of the first 48 points for the team in the first half. The Trojans ended with a victory against the Knights, 70-42. It's easy to see that the Trojans dominated and are pumped to keep up with the wins for the rest of the season.
Senior Austin Wallace shared about how this weekend went overall. He said, "It was a great team bonding experience and it was fun staying in the cabin. We got a lot of good wins this weekend and we are looking forward to more challenging games." Senior Grant Woods added, "It was an amazing experience and I loved bonding with my team. I'm looking forward to some great competition in LA and San Diego." Senior Luke Shaw shared what he is looking forward to in the upcoming season; "This Friday is going to be the toughest game of the season. We play St. Francis in California, and we are excited to get some challenging competition."
The Trojan boys basketball team has a few upcoming games this weekend in California. They will play St. Francis (La Canada, CA) on Friday, December 15th, at 6:00 pm. The next day, on Saturday, December 16th, they play Otay Ranch (CA) at 4:00 pm. Make sure to send them luck from the valley!
After this weekend in California, the boys will take a break from regular games because of Christmas and the holidays. Then they will be competing in the Visit Mesa Basketball Challenge over winter break. This takes place at Red Mountain High School, so be sure to show out and support if you're able! During this tournament the Trojans will be taking on a few out of state schools from California and Utah over the course of three days, December 27-29.
The boys basketball program has had a promising start to the season, and they are determined to keep up the success throughout the rest of the season.
