Last Friday, the Trojans played the Payson Longhorns at Benson Field. The game was a crucial win for the Trojans because the Longhorns are one of the strongest teams in the 3A Metro East region. Both the Trojans and the Longhorns were 4-1 coming into the game, there were also high expectations for the Trojans because Chanel 12 News' program "Friday Night Fever" was at the game filming. The last time Friday Night Fever came to Valley Christian was in 2013.

To start the game, the Trojans received the kickoff and the Longhorns forced the Trojans to punt the ball. The Longhorns drove down the field, but then fumbled the ball at midfield. With good field position, the Trojans quickly scored on a 12-yard touchdown pass from Hunter Heeringa to tight end Adam Bradford.

The Longhorns put a drive together right after the Trojan touchdown and scored to tie the game 7-7. The Trojans got the ball back and Ethan Tovar scored a 5-yard rushing touchdown to give the Trojans the lead. This was only the beginning of a good night for senior running back Ethan Tovar.

The Trojans scored two more times before the half ended, an 8-yard rushing touchdown by Tovar and a 13-yard screen pass from Heeringa to Ethan Heinrich. The Longhorns also scored another touchdown, making the score 28-14 at the end of the half.

The Trojans kept lighting up the scoreboard in the second half. Hunter Heeringa finished the game with four passing touchdowns, two to Adam Bradford and two to Ethan Heinrich. Ethan Tovar ran all over the Longhorns and finished the game with 168 yards rushing and three touchdowns.

The final score was 58-34. The Trojans basically locked up the #1 spot in their Metro East Region and they look to carry this momentum into Friday's game when they play the Tempe Buffaloes, who are 0-6.
